Candlelighters of Brevard and University of Florida DIPG Brain Tumor Research will be the beneficiaries of the Mikey Strong 5K. As our community comes together to celebrate Mikey and spread awareness Candlelighters is honored to share his story. Mikey Goodwin was a vibrant, athletic, caring, and exuberant 19-year-old student when diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) a rare and deadly form of brain cancer. Mikey was diagnosed in February of 2020 and lost his battle with DIPG in May of 2020. To honor Mikey on his birthday, a 5K run being held on November 24, 2020 is a tribute to Mikey and other DIPG fighters and ones that have lost the battle.
