It is our utmost pleasure to announce the inception of Brevard’s newest event – The Heart of Gold Gala – benefiting Candlelighters of Brevard. This inaugural event will be held on February 8, 2020 at Kennedy Space Center. This event experience will allow you the chance to celebrate, engage and dance with the families of Candlelighters. Our evening will begin with an awe-inspiring awards ceremony that will leave you feeling over the moon. We will then journey together to the Atlantis building which offers a number of interactive gaming areas, attractions and dance floor space to fully interact with our little stars. Event elements will also include the traditional Candlelighter signature baskets, auctions, dinner buffets, bars and dancing. Please note that this is an adult only event. We look forward to this new adventure and invite you to join us as we celebrate a Night of Stars! Sponsorships are now available for reservation at

Tickets are currently only available through sponsorship opportunities. A Light of Hope for Kids with Cancer

What many people may not understand about childhood cancer is that the devastation reality of the disease goes miles beyond anything physical. In addition to the extreme financial strain of paying for care, Brevard and Indian River based families must also devote an overwhelming amount of time, travel and money for countless other expenses. From the shock of the diagnosis to the painful side-effects of treatment, the ongoing heartbreak and emotional impact felt by the entire family is hard to imagine. While nobody can see the diagnosis coming, we can make sure that our local children and their families have the support and resources they need to fight back. From economic assistance to emotional encouragement, join Candlelighters of Brevard in helping families survive the extreme physical, psychological and practical hardships of this disease.

Consider the following truths:
  • Because there are no pediatric oncologists in Brevard, 100% of our families must travel out of the county in order to seek medical care.
  • In 2018, families drove approximately 280,866 miles back and forth to their treatment centers.
  • These families spent 1,316 days at clinic visits, 684 days in-patient and over 175 days at the Ronald McDonald House.

2020 Sunshine State EggFest – April 25, 2020

The 2019 Sunshine State Eggfest hosted by Wassi’s Meat Market and benefiting Candlelighters of Brevard was held on Saturday, April 27 at the Indian River Fairgrounds. In 2018, $13,400 was raised for the children of Candlelighters – an $8,000 increase from the previous year! The two-day festivity features the EggChef Meet and Greet presented by the American Muscle Car Museum, as well as the main event cook-off on Saturday, April 27. We are extremely thankful for the efforts of the event organizers, Wassi’s Meat Market, and the support of Melbourne BMW – who generously donated $10,000 as the Signature Sunshine State Eggfest Sponsor.

The Wassi family has become a beloved part of our COB family. The blood, sweat, and tears they invest to make this event a success for Candlelighters is truly inspirational. Community events, like EggFest, are a large factor in our ability to continue raising awareness for our local families battling pediatric cancer and to continue expanding our services to children in Indian River County.

Childhood Cancer Awareness

September marks National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. At Candlelighters of Brevard, we take this opportunity to more deeply reflect with our community on the realities of childhood cancer. For over 29 years, Candlelighters has seen first-hand the devastation that the diagnosis of childhood cancer brings on to the entire family unit. However, we have also witnessed how the community can make a tremendous difference in the lives of these same families through education, advocacy, financial assistance and emotional support. All month long on COB’s Facebook we share information, facts, stories and much more. To all of our COB families past and present throughout Brevard County, we honor each of you. Together as a community, if we reach out for their little hands we may just be able to touch their big hearts.
